What are the things that you like about how your mental health care provider treats you?

  1. My therapist calls me when I miss an appointment. I feel bad, but she doesn't make me feel worse. I am usually in the dark without her.

My workplace is for me part of my mental health care because they know about my illness, and in fact it's part of my job to take care of myself, too. They include me on resources that I need, such as ways to save money on healthcare, food, or entertainment, and they offer information on Wellness fairs, and other ways to get more involved with the community. I enjoy working for my two employers, and they really help me stretch my skills. I didn't know I could do some of the things I was asked to do until I got this job as a peer advocate.
I think of every single person who walks into the Wellness Center as someone who is helping me with my own recovery. We are all there for the same reasons, and I learn more from them than I do from any book, movie, or concert. My job is to be supportive and listen as well as to role model assertiveness and non-violence.

I trust my healthcare team, and I appreciate the advice they have for me. They make it easier to appreciate my Dad for being my Dad, rather than my Doctor. I now see my medical bills as insurance that helps me have better relationships with my family.
